The Institution and the Major Record Label

Thinking about the thing Archer said in the 1992 MTV piece. Don’t wait around for someone else to put out your record. Do it yourself and move on.
That was the DIY idea. Now, how do we do this ourselves when thinking of an archive, or some vessel to carry this stuff forward?
A digital archive as a website with an endowment to keep it active after we are gone is DIY.
But so much of our stuff needs to exist physically. That’s why it’s great that Pete is interested in taking some of our stuff. But not all of our stuff. Stuff that works within the framework of the collection there.
What is the alternative to the Institution? The major record label of archives? It doesn’t exist. If it did, what would it look like? How expensive would that be? How long would it last?
